A date with meaning

Which moment should your map remember?

There may be several right memories. Start by deciding which one the print should tell, then make the date, place and words agree.

Choose the moment before you choose the minute

The storyA useful starting pointA detail to verify
A relationship beginningThe first meeting, first conversation or day you became a couple. An approximate recollection should remain an explicit assumption, not an invented exact minute.
A weddingThe ceremony or a private moment from the day.The venue and actual event time, rather than guest arrival or a different city on the invitation.
A birthThe local birthplace, date and recorded time if the family wants it included.Spelling, privacy and which timezone the original record used.
A new home or chapterThe first evening, moving day or a meaningful arrival. The chosen observer location; your present delivery address does not choose this sky.

Both charts use Budapest on 21 June 2025. The calculated stars change between 20:00 and 23:00; these are not arbitrary rotations of one picture. Ideal darkness does not imply the earlier sky was dark to the eye.

Known time or unknown time?

  • When a time is documented

Use the local time at the event location. Check whether the record already includes a timezone or UTC offset. The designer resolves the date-specific timezone rules; a current clock offset is not a safe shortcut for a historical event.

  • When the time is uncertain

Choose unknown time to use the disclosed 22:00 local assumption. You can compare alternatives in the explorer, but an attractive view does not recover the original time. Decide which assumption you want to remember and check it before approval.

When the clock makes a moment ambiguous

In a spring clock change, a local time may not exist. Choose another time rather than letting the form silently move the event. In an autumn change, the same written time may happen twice. The earlier and later occurrences correspond to different UTC instants; use the one the event record or your own intention supports.

Coordinates choose the sky. The label tells the story.

The city search supplies coordinates and a timezone; manual coordinates let you use a more specific place. The printed place label can be “Where we began” while the calculation remains attached to Paris. Check the saved coordinates and timezone separately from that wording. A different label alone does not move the observer.

A daytime moment is still a moment

You can choose a daytime birth or ceremony. Stars have directions above the horizon then, even though sunlight usually hides them from view. Celestial is a chart; Deep sky is an ideal-dark-sky reconstruction. Neither is a claim about the weather, light pollution or naked-eye view on that date.

Check the saved moment in the finished proof

  1. Read the local date, time and timezone

Confirm the intended date format and the selected occurrence if the time repeated. If you chose unknown time, remain comfortable with the labelled 22:00 assumption.

  2. Check the actual place

Confirm the calculation coordinates and then read the printed label. A display name, a delivery country and an observer location serve different purposes.

  3. Check the words and format together

Read the dedication after the chosen physical format is applied. If you edit a moment or composition, generate and inspect a new finished proof; an old approval does not describe the changed draft.
